The Museo Nacional del Prado has put Artificial Intelligence at the service of the dissemination of its Collection. With the help of the Spanish start-up -Sherpa.ai- it has developed an algorithm to identify and list objects and people in a series of works.
Once this data is known, the Museum is launching a project called “Telling the Prado”, which uses the numerical anecdote to continue telling stories to painting enthusiasts and lovers of the Prado.
The Museum today poses a series of questions on its social networks in which questions of enumeration or comparison are posed with the sole purpose of continuing to encourage the gaze of all audiences.
Among the selected works are St. Ursula with the Eleven Thousand Virgins, The Meadow of St. Isidore and Ommegang Festival in Brussels, among others.

“Telling the Prado” is a project that aims to stimulate the knowledge of its collection in a creative and universal way through the identification of details of a selection of works where quantity, repetition or agglomeration are an essential part of the theme represented. Parades, triumphal entries, disembarkations, festivities… can now be admired from another point of view.
To achieve this, Sherpa.ai has developed an AI system capable of counting different elements (people, horses, paintings, boats…) in a selection of works from the Prado’s permanent collection.
To show the conclusions of this development, the Prado Museum launches a new dynamic in social networks through a series of questions focused on enumeration and comparison, which will invite to reflect and share answers.
